"The Happy Gut" Recipe eBook for Gut Health vol. 1
A happy gut = a happier you!
Did you know that 70% of our immune systems lives in our gut?
A healthy gut microbiome (which is as unique as you are), is crucial for increasing health outcomes in mind, body and spirit! Feeding your gut the kinds of foods that creates a healthy microbiome (probiotic, prebiotic, plus plenty of fiber-rich foods) will support digestion for maximum nutrient absorption; boost immunity against infections and reduce inflammation; and produce neurotransmitters like serotonin which influences happiness and wellbeing.
Introducing “The Happy Gut!”, vol 1, a recipe ebook created by Venus Barratt, owner and chef of The Wellness Kitchen in northern Virginia, and inspired by her mission to get more of us to treat the food we eat as medicine as well as nutrition for our bodies.
Think of this eBook to be a guide from which to make different choices about what you’ll eat. The recipes are easy and inexpensive to prepare. Customize them according to your liking! We hope they will inspire you to be mindful of what you eat at each meal every day.
The science behind the recipes: This plan introduces plenty of probiotic-rich foods like yogurt and fermented vegetables which provides beneficial “living” bacteria to your gut, which in turn helps to restore balance to the microbiome. Prebiotics support digestive health by feeding the good bacteria and are added to this plan through fiber-rich foods like whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, garlic, onion, nuts and seeds.
This plan replaces inflammatory foods with anti-inflammatory nutrient-rich foods that contain polyphenols found in such foods as apples, berries, parsley, and celery, plus antioxidants to manage inflammation such as healthy oil, nuts and seeds. It also includes foods that contain essential building blocks to repair tissue and reduce intestinal permeability (also known leaky gut).
We encourage you to modify recipes to match your food preferences, as success is easiest when your diet is sustainable.
A time-saving tip: Use online grocery ordering and pick up through Instacart or your favorite grocery store. It’s mind-boggling how much time and money you can save by ordering online!
And remember, if for whatever reason you cannot prepare these meals for yourself, we can prepare them for you through our Personal Chef Service. Get in touch if the Personal Chef Service is right for you. Email Venus@warrentonwellnesskitchen.com to schedule a free consultation.
